Venice, the enchanting city built on water, captivates the hearts of millions each year. From its iconic canals to its historic architecture, Venice offers an unforgettable experience for every traveler. In this blog, we’ll dive into the must-see attractions, hidden gems, and practical tips to make your Venetian adventure truly magical.

Enchanting Venice: A Personal Journey Through Romance and History

Venice Venice, despite living near the water ourselves, remains an irresistible destination. Its culture, history, and the magnificent buildings that surround you evoke a sense of romance and nostalgia. We park our car on the mainland and board a water taxi to reach Venice, a journey that can also be made via vaporetto. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting many times, whether for a brief day trip or a longer stay, sometimes in the bustling center or on one of the charming islands just off the coast—an ideal retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle.

Crossing over to one of the smaller islands near Venice on a ferry reveals their beauty and delightful local markets. During one visit, we stayed at a delightful B&B with a spacious rooftop terrace offering mesmerizing views over the shimmering water.

Enjoying an espresso on St. Mark’s Square (choose your spot wisely—it affects what you pay, even for coffee!)  a coffee on St. Mark’s Square can be more expensive than elsewhere in Venice. This is because the square is a popular tourist destination, with many cafes charging higher prices due to the location and the view of the square and the basilica. Therefore, it is advisable to pay attention to where you choose to sit for your coffee break to avoid unpleasant surprises.Venice

Wandering through Venice’s narrow streets, exploring unique boutiques, and inevitably picking up a souvenir or two, like those beautifully crafted masks that Day adores, are highlights. Capturing a photo with the friendly pigeons, who flock eagerly when you offer them a snack, is a charming tradition. And of course, gliding through the canals on a gondola was a joyous experience, whether boarding from one of the quaint side canals or directly from a grand hotel’s water taxi.

Venice is a beloved destination for couples, and what could be more romantic than being serenaded by a gondolier? The city is steeped in culture, with historical buildings and monuments around every corner. Each neighborhood possesses its own distinct character, connected by over 400 bridges spanning 160 canals across Venice’s 117 islands in the lagoon. People have inhabited this unique city in the lagoon for centuries, with Venice flourishing particularly in the 18th century, attracting wealthy families and artists alike.
