Today is the day we finally embark on our long-awaited adventure in Ocala National Forest. The excitement is palpable, yet there’s a hint of mystery about what lies ahead. We woke up at the crack of dawn in our cozy hotel, packed our essentials, and hit the road by 6 AM from Orland the sky was still painted with the hues of twilight, promising a day of discovery and wonder.

After a quick pit stop, we arrived at Silver Springs just as the sun began to peek over the horizon, casting a golden glow over the serene landscape. Giving us a moment to soak in the quiet beauty of the forest. With our backpacks filled with snacks, cameras, and plenty of water, we set off to meet our guide.

As we approached the entrance, a grand sign welcomed us to the park. We had wisely purchased our tickets online,and dive straight into our adventure. The park was a feast for the eyes, with towering trees and the melodious calls of birds echoing through the air. We followed a wooden boardwalk,Ocala national park which seemed to float above the lush undergrowth, leading us to the kayak rental point.

Our guide greeted us with a warm smile, and after a brief introduction, we were assigned our kayaks. The group was small, likely due to the early hour, creating an intimate and personal experience.

With our backpacks securely fastened, we navigated a narrow forest path towards the water. The anticipation was electric. Upon reaching the water’s edge, we gently lowered our kayaks into the crystal-clear spring. The water shimmered with an ethereal blue, revealing a lively world beneath us.

Paddling out, adventure along the stunning Silver River the sense of freedom was exhilarating. The forest around us began to wake up, the sounds of nature growing louder with each stroke. The mist rising from the water, illuminated by the rising sun, created a scene straight out of a fairy tale. Fish darted beneath our kayaks, and the tranquil setting was occasionally broken by the splash of a turtle slipping into the water. 

Our guide will not only lead the way but also entertain you with fascinating commentary along the journey. and shared all the insights about the flora and fauna, pointing out everything from ancient cypress trees to alligators lurking in the shadows. After an hour of paddling through this enchanted waterway, we had seen sunken boats, vibrant springs, and an array of wildlife, including a massive three-meter alligator that swam right past us. We returned to the rental point, ready to embark on the next part of our adventure.

We grabbed our wakeboards and headed back out, eager to explore more. With our bags once again securely fastened, I watched in amazement as Day effortlessly stood up on her board and paddled away. Inspired, I carefully stood up on mine, and soon we were both gliding across the water.Day

We navigated through winding rivers, using a map secured under the bungee cords at the front of our boards to find our way. The adventure was thrilling – from monkeys curiously watching us to alligators growling just beside youAligator , reminding us of their presence. But the highlight was undoubtedly the playful manatees. One baby manatee took a particular interest in our boards, lifting them out of the water and creating a of sheer joy and excitement and sty with us for over 20 minutes to play.

They swam beneath our boards, surfaced to breathe, just centimeters away from us and even played around us, seemingly unaware of our presence. This experience was simply incredible, and as the day drew to a close, we found ourselves reluctant to leave. We regretted not planning to stay a few more days, but we will certainly return in the future because this was such an extraordinary experience.

You can rent a canoe and paddle down the Salt Springs Run to Lake George. Out of the water, the trails are perfect to hike through the Ocala National Forest.
