Nestled in the picturesque Limburg countryside, just a short drive from the charming town of Valkenburg aan de Geul, lies the idyllic Hilkensberg Estate. This hidden gem has quietly become a favorite destination of us for seeking a blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and culinary delights.
On the evening before Christmas, we arrived atHilkensberg Estate and were greeted by a driveway adorned with twinkling lights in the Christmas trees. At the end of the driveway stood a stately farmhouse, and the scent of warm punch welcomed us as it drifting through the air as we approached. Stepping inside, an immediate sense of comfort enveloped us. The interior was styled in rustic elegance, with cozy decorations and corners perfect for relaxation and we felt the embrace of familiarity as if returning to a cherished retreat.
Entering the estate, we were greeted by a rustic yet elegantly adorned interior that seamlessly blended country charm with classic comfort. Every corner exuded a sense of warmth, from the cozy decorations that adorned the mantelpieces to the inviting nooks where one could lose oneself in a good book or simply gaze out at the serene landscape beyond.
The manor’s heart was its expansive kitchen, generously stocked with all manner of refreshments, ensuring that our stay would be as indulgent as it was relaxing. Our chosen sanctuary, the “Lavender” room, was a sanctuary in itself, and was truly magnificent, complete with a large fireplace and French doors opening onto the estate to sweeping views of the estate grounds. it always warms my heart to witnessing Day’s infectious joy as she marvelled at the simple pleasures of our surroundings.
Spread across the estate were various spots where fires could be lit, and each evening, they lit a communal bonfire. It was a delightful opportunity to gather together, chat, play games, or simply listen to the crackling fire while enjoying a glass of wine. We invite you to join us around the fire, where we roasted marshmallows and warmed ourselves under the starlit sky.
Every morning, Day would start her day with a bucket to feed the llamas and sheep before preparing a delightful breakfast.
Breakfast was a delight, enjoyed by the fireplace while we savored views of the awakening landscape bathed in soft morning light.
Our days at Hilkensberg Estate were a testament to the joy of slowing down, of savoring each moment, and of finding solace in the embrace of nature and genuine hospitality. Whether we were exploring the estate’s trails, indulging in local cuisine at the charming café, or simply basking in the tranquility of our surroundings, every experience felt like a cherished chapter in our own private story of discovery and rejuvenation.

In the Country House Hotel, they offer 12 rooms. They have double, triple, and quadruple rooms, all charmingly and rusticly decorated. Using natural materials and earth-toned colors, we bring the essence of nature and the outdoors inside.
As a guest, you can enjoy our communal spaces designed for relaxation and connection. These include the Country House Room, Pavilion House, Garden Room, and Silence Room.
Every morning, they serve a delicious à la carte breakfast in our Country House Room. This breakfast is not included in the standard price. If you wish to be pampered by them, please reserve your breakfast when booking or upon arrival at reception.
**Wooden Cottages**
Charming, rustic wooden cottages
In the forest at the back of the estate, there are ten wooden cottages available for rent. Each cottage accommodates four people and includes two bedrooms, a living room with an open kitchen, a bathroom, and a cozy veranda perfect for morning breakfasts and evening drinks.
The cottages are made from red cedar wood, a sustainable material known for its strength and beauty. As you step into the cottage, you’re greeted by the scent of the wood. Combined with the charming decor, this ensures you feel immediately at home in nature.
The cottages are equipped with a kitchen, allowing you to prepare your own breakfasts and meals. Prefer to enjoy a breakfast prepared by us? You can pick up a breakfast basket from our reception in the morning. Simply fill out our breakfast list the night before with your desired items for the basket.
Outside the cottages, there are fire pits where you can also cook over an open flame.
The cottages have central heating, making them suitable for year-round stays.
